Words of thanks from 2020 Aquatic Plant Science Award Winner, John Madsen

I wish to thank the board and membership of the Northeast Aquatic Plant Management Society for presenting me with the Outstanding Aquatic Plant Science Award at the 2020 Annual Meeting. I can truthfully say that I have enjoyed my career immensely – both the challenges and rewards of research, and the ability to speak to the national and regional chapters of APMS.

The Northeast holds a special place in my heart – my Postdoctoral position was with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Darrin Freshwater Institute (then just the Fresh Water Institute) under the direction of Chuck Boylen. The three years at RPI anchored my career in the biology and management of aquatic invasive plants. I have been back several times to work in the Northeast – projects on Onondaga Lake, Vermont, several New York lakes, and others.

Sincerely,

John D. Madsen
